A plan does several things at once. Your family, not a court, decides your medical care. The estate stays out of probate and out of the public record. And the structure can be built to handle long-term care costs before they arrive rather than after.

I haven't mentioned that whenever there is a probate, it is public. So I'm sure you've heard, when a celebrity dies: People magazine, TMZ, all over the news. If you hear how many children, from what relationship, in what court they are, how many ex-spouses, the money, then it means they did not have a proper plan.
