The Tattoo Clause: How Specific a Trust Can Get

August 6, 2026 Maria V. Primushko 34 sec video

When my daughter turned sixteen she asked for a tattoo. I told her of course, but when the time came to receive her inheritance she would need to see a dermatologist, and any tattoo or removal scar would send her share to her siblings. She said, “Mom, you could have just said no.” A trust can be as specific as you want it to be.

What I said in this clip, lightly edited for readability.

For example, my daughter, when she turned 16, she asked me, "Mom, can I have a tattoo?" I'm like, "Of course you can. But keep in mind, when the time comes for you to receive an inheritance, you will have to go through a visit to a dermatologist doctor. And if there is a tattoo, or a scar from tattoo removal, then your share will go to your siblings."

She's like, "You could have just said no."
